Bittersweet

The first week in October and it is eighty degrees here. I was walking around the gardens today and I have to say, I just don't remember there being this many flowers in bloom in October. I do love it, it is beautiful, but for me, today, it was bittersweet. I have to say, more bitter than sweet. Images of walking along in my boots, a knit scarf from my sister stacked under my chin, the smell of rotting leaves, and hot cider in my hand were dancing through my head. Yes, I know, it will come soon enough. So, today, we enjoyed the beautiful flowers that inspire me so much.

My love for fall, inspires me to do many things, but when it comes to decorating my home, spring and summer is what really gets me going. I love all things light and airy, all year long.
I thought it would be a great day to make a new duvet for our bed, inspired by our gardens.

I used freshcut fabric for the top, and an ivory stripe for the bottom. That fabric gets me every time. I love it. It is elegant, with a touch of whimsy.

And a linen bear for the kids. I have a feeling that I will be making more of these.

So, yes, today we will enjoy our beautiful gardens, our flip flops, and the sandbox. Soon enough we can enjoy that scarf, and cider, raking leaves, and boots. It will be worth the wait, I am sure.
