To color, or not to color?

My crafting days have been a bit slow here. I had a very, very minor neck injury. I could not look to left without moving my whole body. I never realized how much neck whipping a mama does. So no exercising, or sewing.
This has left me with a little more time to ponder something else. My gray hair that is starting to sprout a little too fast for me. So, what is a lady to do? Do you color or not? I happen to like gray hair on a lot of people. Love it on others (Heelllooooo George Clooney) I just do not like it on me at this time.
I went to the store yesterday, thinking I might pick something up to put the grays out of their misery. I am not new to coloring. You see, I used to color my hair a very nice shade of white, I mean blond. Ahem. It was in college, and I just kept coloring, and coloring. How did I not realize it was the same shade as a cotton ball?
Anyway, I have not colored my hair for a really long time. When I walked into the store, I was so overwhelmed. Don't they have something just to cover the gray? I am sure they do. I could not find it. I don't want to change my hair color, just cover some of it up. I left without the hair color. My 21 year old self was screaming at my 32 year old self "You are just leaving? You aren't going to do something about this, this second?"
For now, I guess the answer is no. I need some help. Please help. The commercial says I am worth it. I guess I am, I am just not sure what to get.

I did not leave empty handed though. I got some sunglasses. You know, to cover up the under eye bags and such.

Thanks for your wonderful comment - I am super excited to make the lounge pants tonight. I wouldn't color - a few gray hairs adds character (and I have a phobia, as the last time I colored, my hair turned an intersting carrot shade of red). Your crafting has given me some awesome ideas as I have read all your posts the last few days - and your kids are adorable.
Thanks,
Kris

Oh there is totally hope...I have hear that Excellence Creme by L'Oreal works wonders and has no downfalls if you follow the directions. I would choose something close to your natural color (duh) and do note that brunettes are the new blondes. Don't stress, and nice shades!

Oh Lordy! Katie, you are the only one who can see those grays. Leave them. I think it's hot. I know you don't agree though. If you buy a color that's really close to your natural shade you can experiment on a small sliver of hair to get a feel for what it will look like. (Love Shannon)

i'm thinking your hot mama status would only get more sophisticated if you left the grey alone. grey is sexy!

I have strawberry blonde hair so any grays just blend in for now. My hubby is not so lucky and has hair about your color. He uses the colored shampoo that you wash in once or twice a week and it works wonders. I just got it at Walmart..I think it's John Freida.

Haven't gone grey yet, knock on wood, so I don't have any recommendations, but the sunglasses and your outfit are way cute.

ohhh my.... I hope you feel better soon... can't help you with the grey. I am a colour-o-holic. sorry.

Haven't seen my first grey yet though I am sure that I just jinxed myself. You are so funny. I think I would have bought them all!

Cool sunglasses though!

I don't have any grays yet, but I color. Well, I highlight. I used to do it myself, but looking like Tony the Tiger wasn't a good look for me so I went to a colorist and now look presentable. My mom colors her hair herself and swears by Garnier Fructis.

I don't have any gray yet, but I color my hair anyway, and probably will continue to do so once the gray settles in.

lol, I love this post, you funny woman! I don't like the grays and my grandma fought them- still does, my momma fought them- now I fight them. There are products that cover gray hair, however it seems to me that you have to match it to your hair color- as if that were easy. So I don't have any answers, sorry. I like to keep my hair healthy which means I only go get my roots done every 4-5 months, which also means they have grown out by 2-3 months. It is sooooo expensive here....too expensive. So when I go (which I need to go NOW) I get my hair trimmed too $$$.
I started thinking that having my roots show- when no one else around here would dare, it says " hey, I am too busy doing momma stuff and sewing and momma stuff"- makes me feel better- putting it back and up in a bun helps too. ; )
LOOK at all the no grays on the comments- lucky ducks!
Katie, I love the sunglasses! Let me know if you find the magic bottle!

Kate - are you kidding me???? Cover them up girlfriend. I just got back from the hairdresser on Wednesday covering mine. Try that Loreal or a salon. I love ya grey or not but at 32 . . . cover them up! You are way to young to start the "I'm ok with getting old" thing . . . fight it!

yeah, I'd say cover it up, too. having had my first gray hair at age 18 (yes, it's true!) I am so thankful that I am not more gray than I am today. I pull mine for now. but soon I am going to HAVE to color. highlighting can get you through for awhile, too. it's a nice option, I have found.

Grays, I mean Silver is so hard to cover. I have a messload and I am not even 30 yet!! I just dyed my hair Feb. 1st and before Feb's end I needed to redo it. Ugh!! I will be reading your comments to see what everyone thinks the best silver coverage is.

KT,KT,KT-

My dear, sweet girl! Why didn't we discuss this yesterday at lunch? Was it because we were alittle busy with the children???!!! Preference by L'Oreal is the best-hands down, unless you want to spend $100 to have Lisa do it-she is good, but... I thought you looked fabulous yesterday. I didn't see any grays and your hair is always so shiny. If you do decide to head to Target, go with an "ash" warm shade, not with a golden "cool" shade. Those golds will bring out unwanted red highlights. I even think they have a hotline to call for advice. The L'Oreal Excellence is more temporary if you want to try that first. Let me know what you decide!

I want some of those PJs!!!!!! I can totally picture myself lounging in them while I recover from my surgery :)

I was blonde and always have my hair dresser keep me this way so no gray hair here. So my advice is limited. I think you look like the super cool hip mom with your new sunglasses so that means you won!

Ha! So funny that you just posted this because as of a week a ago I've been noticing a few grays pop up in my hair too. I pull them out right as soon as I see them, but I think it's crazy because I'm not even 30. (I think all those people who say they don't have them yet are either blond so they can see them or they already color their hair so they don't know. Or maybe they really are just that lucky!) Heaven knows that when I can't keep up with them I will start coloring my hair again. I used to all the time and stopped because I found out that I actually like my natural color it's MUCH darker than it was in high school.
You look hot no matter what. Just work it! Cool glasses! I wonder if I could pull some like them off.

I don't leave my gray in but I don't do a total color. I get subtle highlights. My hairdresser puts foils on the most noticeable gray areas with a color just slightly lighter than my natural color and in the end it just all blends in.

i had a great time reading this post and all of the comments! who is going grey, and who isn't. well, my friend, i have always pulled mine out. then the guy who cuts my hair told me they will grow in curly. and oh my, they do! i HATE them. he colors my hair, and every time i go, i say....."how many do you see? how many? huh? HUH?""" i am totally fighting them. and will for a VERY long time!!!
(and when i get angry with the children, i say......lyou are giving mommy's grey hairs!, those poor kids will think they have done me in soon.)

Hi Katie - great stuff going on at your blog. I have to comment on the grays - although you have probably settled on a decision by now. I have dark, straight hair with course white/grays poking through (I blame three children in 3.5 yrs). I have the same color vs don't color debate. What is boils down to for me is I don't have the discipline to keep up the color & I don't want the responsibility of doing it myself! So, the grays stay until the kiddos get older. Then I re-evaluate. A flat iron does wonders to keep the stray grays flat and discreet. Can't wait to see the Easter dresses!

I would not worry about a few grays. After seeing my dad in the nursing home this weekend, I am going to spend more time living. Seriously, you should take a break. Remember the knee I told you about! The MRI revealed a bruised bone. I hope your neck gets better. My hairdresser told me that two gray hairs grow where you pulled the one. I love the pin.

When you look that gorgeous who cares about a few gray hairs! I love the comment from your Mum - I'd listen to her she sounds like she knows what she's talking about as mums usually do!
