We had an emergency

Anna had this bear we got for her that was really, really old. It was made out of a vintage quilt, and I loved it just as much as she did. This was no ordinary bear. It was her baby. She took it everywhere, I mean everywhere (I don't want to tell you what I found on the face of that poor bear).
She loves all of her toys very much, but she is a bit hard on them at the same time. Baby bear was just beyond repair. The quilt was so frayed and ripped, in so many places, it wasn't even possible to mend it. She had taken all the stuffing out several times and decorated her room with it. And, to top it off, she had pulled the ears off.
I was sad for baby bear, and for Anna when I told her we had to get rid of it, but secretly a little excited too.

I have had this idea for a patchwork bear dancing in my head for a while now. We did recycle all of the stuffing, so in a way, baby bear is still with us.

Saying good bye to baby bear went better than I thought. I told her that we had to take her away, so we could make the new bear come alive. She gave baby bear a sweet kiss, and a hug. She then helped me "unstuff" her, and put the stuffing in her new bear.
I think she is going to be just fine.
I am just not so sure about new bear.

That is sweet. What a cute new baby bear too. Hope the new baby bear doesn't have too tough of an initiation!

Soo cute. Did you use a pattern or the old bear as your guide? I just love the fabrics.

That is such a sweet story! My own two year old has torn up her favorite bunny. Her bunny isn't too far gone yet, but that will give me some time to learn how to make a new one.
