I just can't let it go

I made this outfit for Anna last summer. It is the first outfit I made her that I was really proud of. She has worn it a lot. It is her favorite. It is my favorite too. Every time she puts it on, I notice it is just getting too tight across her little ribs.

The dress is an original pattern, and I used this pants pattern. I used Freshcut fabric, and linen to cover the buttons.

She can still wear the pants, but I am wondering about the dress. Should I put it away, just in case I have a granddaughter one day, or should I rip out the side seams of the dress and make it a touch bigger? I don't want to change the look of the dress, and I really don't want to ruin it.

Hmmmmm, maybe she just needs a new favorite dress.

keep that dress! for sure, keep it, if only to remind YOU of how good you felt when it was done and she loved it. it's an heirloom piece, no question.

ps1 -- i just sent my mother-in-law a purse made with that fabric for mother's day. i didn't make it, tho' -- it's been YEARS since i've sewn, though you're inspiring me more and more to buy a machine.

ps2 -- you're in NE, right? We're north of Boston.

What a cute dress. I bet you could rip out the side seams and sew in strips of coordinating fabric in the sides to make it bigger. What about using the stripe fabric to match the pants? Another idea is to make the strips bigger than what she needs now and add ribbons that can be tied to fit so that she can continue wearing the dress for a while.

It is so special, for many reasons. I would probably make something new, and keep this one as a keepsake. But if you're not a keepsake keeper, taking out the side seams would be easy enough.
it is so pretty.

i say keep it like it is. save it for now.
maybe one day you can use the fabric to make her something else. or tuck it into a box and save for your grandchildren.
and whip out that machine.
you have a new dress to make!

Keep the dress as is - if it is her favorite, she will enjoy having it for her daughter. Make her another one - which will be just as beautiful!!

Oh it is beautiful, the fabrics are perfect, so summery and pretty. I think you should save it and make another, these decisions are so hard to make, I make a lot of my daughter's clothes and go through the same dilemma. I have started to give things to some close friends and although the initial wrench was hard it now gives me such a thrill to see them being worn and loved by someone else.

And of course, it gives you the excuse to go fabric shopping...

I love the photos of Anna playing amongst the daffodils! So sweet! It seems like only yesterday you were that small and picking flowers...

i vote for putting the dress away and making a new one!

Such an adorable outfit! I know that I will feel the same about the patchwork pants I made for Sam. They suit him to a T and I just love him in them. I went to Jo Ann the other day to get some more fabric to make him another pair.

I think you should keep that outfit as it is and make her a new one. The same style but maybe different fabric. Every time she outgrows she could get an update. Favorite Outfit round 2.

Keep the dress. Use it on a bear in her room so you can see it from time to time. It's way too cute. How about a nice little cotton knitted tank to match those cute pants this year? What ever you do, I'm sure it will be adorable.

I have been making dresses for my girls and I would like to make that kind of pants too, so cute!

Your girl looks so cute on those, I guess I would save those and make new bigger ones.
