A new cookbook

On rainy, or snowy days, the kids and I like to thumb through all of my magazines. They like to look for pictures of animals, and chocolaty things we can make. I have found so many recipes that I have wanted to try in those magazines, but I never do. I fold down the page, make a mental note, but then the recipes are just forgotten.

I have always been really hesitant to cut things out of magazines, I don't know why. I finally did it last night. I went through all of them, just took the ones the I had marked so far, and decided to search for new ones another time.

I went out and got an really inexpensive scrap book, and stuck them all in there this morning. There are recipes in there that we have already tried, and will try again, and there are new recipes that I can not wait to try like, homemade dressings, meyer lemon coffee cake, and potato salad with blue cheese, bacon and chives.

Ah yes, and rhubarb is almost in season here. I found lots of recipes with rhubarb I can not wait to try.

So, my new cookbook is going to grow, I can tell, so I guess I better get to it!

I love this idea. I have often thought to do the same. I have a plastic sleeve with all of my "scrap" recipes. Some are so great and I forget about them because they are all over the place. Nice work and I am sure that the new cook book will get lots of use and love!

I to, love this idea. Just a silly question, did you buy plastic sleeves for the book or did it come with it? And where did you buy the book? Thanks :0)

Great idea! I have a big binder with sections for recipes that I've made and will make again, and a big section for stuff to try, subdivided into veg, fish and dessert categories. It's fun to look through and put menus together. I can't wait to see what rhubarb goods you'll be making, I looove rhubarb!

I have been wanting to do that forever, but I am seriously afraid of cutting up my old magazines. And probably for no good reason!

I can't wait to hear about your rhubarb recipes. I've been making lots of strawberry rhubarb sauce for ice cream. yum.

What a great idea! I've never had rhubarb, but it must be good, someone else was talking about it.

My favourite pudding is rhubarb crumble and custard. Love the apron.

This is a great idea. I have a manila folder stuffed with recipes and it's always a mess to go through. I'm thinking I need to give this one a whirl. Love that apron :)

Great idea...mine are all in a forgotten pile in a drawer. Sounds like a great Winter project for me.

You're so clever! This is one of those projects that I've had in the back of my mind forever, but never get around to doing. Maybe if I had a pretty scrapbook I'd get on it :)

What a great thing to do. I've never thought of using a pretty scrapbook, my mag recipes etc are in a plain ole black 3 ringed binder - yours is much prettier, and something I might have to copy ;-)

Love the idea and actually did my own this past winter. It was an on-going project because I had put it off for so long, but one day when the girls were in school I started on it and just worked on it when I found the time. I did one for recipes and one for home ideas. I think they are both very handy little books to have. Happy cutting & cooking!

What a good idea! I'm always hesitant to cut things out of magazines, too. It's like I want to preserve the magazines and keep them intact for some reason, but then I rarely go back to the things I've flagged! I think I may copy you...

I need to do this. I have been piling up cut out recipes in a drawer and it's getting crazy in there!

oh sweetie! cut those recipes out with abandon! i do this all the time! only my book is a plain old 3 ring binder, and i keep mine in plastic sleeves. yours is decidedly cuter!
