Neighbors who knit

I have a neighbor who is a dear friend, and who loves to knit just as much as I do. We have five kids between the two of us, so almost everyday, they have a play date, and we have a knitting date.
In between kissing scraped knees, serving fruit snacks, and sipping caffeinated beverages (us, not the children) we knit, and talk, and knit. I love this time. Our kids are happy, outside exploring, playing on the swing set, or riding bikes, and we can connect, exchange recipes, knitting books and patterns. I think we have helped each other through some trying days and I feel lucky to have someone to share my days with. Someone who understands what a "bad day for mama" is. I think our kids are lucky too.

Her birthday is in a few days, and I thought a case to hold her knitting needles would be perfect. She spotted one while we were in our favorite yarn shop last week, and I knew it would be perfect. I used fabric and ribbon from my stash, brown suede and a home decor floral. I did not have a pattern. I just cut two rectangles for the back, and made a front pocket and sewed a line every couple of inches to make the little pockets for the needles. She likes to knit with circulars, so I made it a little long so they would fit in there nicely.
I can not wait to give this to her.
So, there you have it. My knitting secret. I have a neighbor who knits with me, a lot.

That is such a wonderful gift!! Now I see how you get so much knitting done - and it's great that your kids can play together like that. And is that your new summer knit? Can't wait to see it finished!

Aha! Now all of your speedy knitting makes sense. :) It always helps to have a friend to knit with. You two are so lucky, not only in knitting, but in friendship. I think she's going to love the needle roll.

What a great gift! Every knitter and crocheter needs one. You are so lucky to have someone nearby who also has kids and loves to knit. A good friendship is hard to come by nowadays.

I just met a neighbor this past week that is a quilter. I asked her if she had a fabric stash yet. she said no. first I laughed an evil little laugh, then I told her husband to hide his wallet. and they thought I was kidding. :)

That's a great gift - and so nice to have someone around with whom you can knit regularly.

That might actually get the dust off my needles...;)

That's so wonderful! I need someone like that in my life. (husbands are great, but they're gone ALL day!)
Such a thoughtful gift.

What would I give for a neighbor that likes anything I like to do? A child perhaps? OK not a child but something almost as good. my mom and sil were here and they loved working with me on a couple of my projects. Too bad they are hundreds of miles away now. You are a lucky gal and that neighbor of yours is SUPER lucky!
