I was a little nervous about the dog, but Addison was really in love with it, so I looked a bit closer and decided to go for it.
I had some vintage tweed in my stash, a belt buckle and some bias binding. I even had lots of stuffing. It looks like it is just the dog shape with a long strip for the middle, so I drew my dog shape on the back of the fabric, cut out two pieces, then measured all the way around the dog (93") and cut a strip 3" by 93". I am pretty pleased with the way it came out. I really like the collar. He may need a bit more stuffing though.
Then the owl! I love owl's, and these were so easy to make. I wanted them to have a little character, so I didn't worry about sewing the faces on straight or anything.
Now, I just have to be strong and wait until the fall to wrap them, and see the kids reactions.....that is the best part!

Adorable. Someday I want to have your sewing ability.
What cute stuffed toys... you are so talented!
I just started sewing in October 2007 and can't wait until I'm comfortable enough to capably "wing it" like you demonstrate here. I still need a pattern unless it's cutting out a square or rectangle.
Your blog is lovely. I'm glad I stumbled on it recently and have linked to it so my friends & family can share in the joy.
Those owls are adorable! I would love to try that out...mine would turn out like little stuffed blobs probably though :)
These are so cute. I'm a Pottery Barn Knock off junkie. I had my dad make my girls the house book shelf modelled after the PB one.
How pretty - love them - you are so good at winging it with these types of things!

cute!! Luv the owl.... my handsome would go crazy for the dog!! well done.
Aha! I saw that dog at Pottery Barn yesterday and thought "hmmm...that wouldn't be too hard to copy." I see I'm not the only one thinking like that! Great job!
katie! those are adorable. we notice those in the pb catalog too! and yours are even better. the little collar on the dog is just perfect!
These are gorgeous, well done! I'm in love with that owl and may just have to try one myself.
I've saved the link to pb...don't think we have it here....to thoroughly scrutinize later...thanks!
Very cute and a great gift idea! Love the collar.
What a fabulous and creative idea! Thay are so cute!
They look so great! You did a great job. I love the owls. I know your kids will love them. And you will love seeing them play with them :)
I do the same thing - I see the item in Pottery Barn Kids, and think, oh how cute! I bet I could make that for a LOT LESS! Of course, I haven't done it YET, but I do have an idea list of things I'd like to do that was inspired by their items in their catalog or store.
I bought my daughters bed quilt from PBK, and I loved it. I wasn't sure I could make one that I loved as much. Now, I am ready to make my sons. I feel a little guily that he'll have a handmade one and she won't. So..that means I might just need to make another when I am done with the first!
Very sweet Katie... I especially love the little blue owl!

how cute! I bet the kids will love them.
I just got the catalog with the owls in it and I tore the page out. I was thinking of using it for applique inspiration. Great minds think alike!
BTW, I used one of the patterns you supplied. Thanks! Love it!
