We go out walking....

When we bought this piece of land, we fell in love with wooded acres that came with it. A path that goes down to the river, lots of pine cones, trees and birds to see. We have walked down here hundreds of times, and it never, ever gets old.
Anna and Addison are always in a huge hurry, and Jack likes to take his time, and look at every bug, bird, piece of bark, and leaf.

So many treasures out there waiting to be explored, like this butterfly we found this morning, sunning herself.

And the berries, possibly my favorite part, almost ready to be picked.

Something about being in the woods with my kids is so relaxing. I am not sure if it reminds me of my childhood, or the fact that we just connect when we are out there looking and listening. Probably a bit of both.
It has been really warm here in Maine, and looking at the kids wet curls, sweaty necks, and flushed cheeks, prompts me to tell them it is time for a Popsicle, even if it is only 9:00 am. At first mention of the word, Jack decides to stop sucking his fingers, and his slow pace turns into a full out run.
A walk in the woods, and Popsicles. Really. My life is good.

That is lovely -- It's great having your own little bit of nature just outside of your door!

How lovely that your kids can grow up in that setting - when so many never see nature as it should be. What a great job you are doing!

I loved your blog today. Your writing about the kids is always so very special and poignant. It seems like only yesterday I was walking in the woods on the other side of Bowdoinham with YOU. You girls could never get enough of playing by the Big Rock. Remember?
