A Rainbow
I have been wanting to make a pencil roll for my kids ever since I got this book, last Christmas. It only took me a year to get around to it. Better late then never, right?

We have been storing our pencils and crayons in a very used freezer bag, for quite sometime now. I got the motivation to get this project done last night. This was so much fun to make. At first, I did not think I would have all the colors of the rainbow in my scrap basket. I did. In fact, I had some trouble deciding which shades to use. Thanks to Kristena for sending beautiful purple scraps for her quilt block this month. I had no purple in my stash, then remembered I had a few strips leftover in my sewing closet. Phew.

That is so perfect!!! I'd wait - nice little christmas present to the 3 of them!

How clever!
I love those pencil rolls! And yours is adorable, of course, with all the wonderful fabric from your stash. Yes, purple is a must!
I agree with your husband and Kris...if you can stand it just a little longer, wait until Christmas. They'll love the little extra treat found under the tree!
I've been wanting to make one of these forever too. Yours turned out so cute! I think you just motivated me to go through my scraps.
It's beautiful. I would put it under the tree ~ it really is a special gift.
It looks so pretty on the table! How about giving to them on the first day of Addison's school break as a pre-Christmas treat? It will almost be Christmas and they can use it while you are all home together?? Great job!
So effective! Purple in the one colour I don't have much of either - isn't it funny how we always gravitate towards certain colours!
Under the tree :-)
Wow, that is so gorgeous! Does this mean you make your own DPN/needle cases too? :-)
Cool! If you can stand to wait, I'd hold off until xmas. They'll love it!
Very Cute! I agree with Frank. I would want to get some Christmas mileage out of it!
oh and Katie after a little encouragement from you and a couple of others, I am wearing my sweater vest out in public tonight. I hope it doesn't start unraveling in the middle of Target!
That will be a big Christmas hit - wait!!
Also, totally awesome. You're awesomeness. Your kids are so lucky.
That turned out absolutely perfect!
I've made one of those too and my kids love them. I even made them to fit some of my knitting needles. You could have the "elf" bring them if you can't wait until Christmas. My Mom used to leave little gifts after Thanksgiving up until Christmas maybe once or so in a week that the Elf would bring. Stickers, candy, pencils things like that. So I've been carrying on the tradition with my children who get so excited and love it. My youngest swears he hears bells. Not to mention it's a good incentive for them to behave or the elf won't come.
oooh, love the colors! hmmm, I don't think I could wait. If you guys celebrate winter solstice, could it be a solstice gift? Dec 21 is a teeny tiny bit sooner than the 25th!
I love it. I think you should wait until Christmas. Why not? The kids will love it.
This book is on my Christmas list, and I hope I get it!
Wait until Christmas! I would like one of those! SO cute!!
That's the perfect thing to let them open the night before. We always opened one present the night before just to help with all the anticipation. Those are so pretty. I'm continuly amazed at how much you get made.
That is so wonderful! I'd probably be tempted to give it to my kids early too.
I'd wrap and put it under the Christmas tree but let them open it early ~ my daughter enjoys making hand made Christmas cards and tags and she'd be totally thrilled to have this as a pre-Christmas gift. For us Christmas is a whole season and we enjoy spreading the gift giving out over a whole month instead of all in one day which makes each individual gift more exciting.
so cute! I have yet to make a pencil roll-but after seeing yours I really want to. I would (try to) wait to give it to them, I think.
Definitely wait for Christmas...you could put it with a new easel or less expensive, some coloring books or construction paper. The pencil roll is such a great idea.
That is very, very cool!
Okay, it's really cute. But at our house (2 really active boys) all the pencils would be lost within a week. I hope, given all the work you've put into it, that you have better luck than I do with stuff like this.
Oh I think it is beautiful and speical enough to wait!
It is so cute. I know how you feel. I couldn't wait until Christmas to give my nephew the farm, so I gave it to him at Thanksgiving. Either way they will love it. The nice thing about giving it to them now is that they wouldn't be so overwhelmed by all their other gifts, so they could really enjoy it!
What a great project! I think it would be a special present whether it was given early, or kept until Christmas!
Those pencil rolls are cute, and I just love the Birdies, I made a bunch of those too, and that book, so many fun projects. It would be hard to wait to give those pencil to your kids, they will love them.
I love the pencil roll! The colors are just great! I think it would be a great Christmas present.
Oh I love it! This same project has been on my to-do list for a while ever since the same said book. I might bump it up to my january craft project.
and BTW I think you should totally give it to them at christmas
I love this. I want to make one someday!
gorgeous.... I tend to get soooo excited that I cant wait to give my hand made stuff!! happy giving.
