Let's talk.....outside

This is where we have been lately, outside. It is so great and makes me realize just how much we do hibernate in the winter. This little balcony is outside our bedroom. I have been spending a lot of time out here when the kids are napping. We just put a screen door on this weekend. I can't wait to leave the door open at night this summer.

I gave it a fresh coat of stain earlier this week. We are finding ourselves knee deep in projects. Cutting, mulching, planting, and raking, oh the raking. Addison is on spring vacation. Tonight while making dinner, I ordered 15 chickens. I am so excited about this, I have not been able to sleep. We had so much fun looking at all the different kinds. We decided on ten Araucunas. They are the chickens that lay blue and green eggs! We also got 5 Buff cochin Bantam's. I love their feathery pantaloons. This weekend we will start clearing a nice place for their coop.

So, I will be away from here for a while. I will be back after next week with a give-away. Something for everyone, fabric and jewelry. I have four finished sewing projects I want to share, and I think I might start another quilt this week.
Thanks so much for coming to my little corner of the Internet. Blogging has been such a positive outlet for me. What are you up to this week?

yay for chickens! We have Ameraucanas and we love them. They're not laying yet and they're still well worth it. I'm looking forward to eggs in a few months.

Post photos of your new babies when they come.

I've enjoyed reading your posts ... a nice break from my life right now.

Loving your new sweaters. I also made your icecream cake for Easter. It was so good. I will not tell you how much I ate of it!

Thank you for your inspiration.

Wow, chickens! Not sure if you read the pioneer woman's blog, but she really wants chickens, too.

Oh, that is so funny. I just kiddingly said this week that I wanted to buy some chickens - the kind that lay the blue eggs! How great will that be?! Enjoy the beautiful weather. I'm so relieved that Spring is finally here...

Your little balcony is so quaint, so lovely. I can just imagine sitting there, a project in hand, the sun warm on your face. And the summer night will be so welcome, the door left wide open. Enjoy!

I, too, am excited about your chickens! And raking, mulching, gardening! I'm delighted to have a little herb garden started again, planted a couple of weeks ago now, and thriving. There's nothing better then gifts of the earth, fresh at the table.

Hope the good weather continues. It's bright and sunny today and that means a walk to our downtown to people watch, breathe in some sounds and sights.

Have a GREAT week!

I finally talked my husband into allowing us to get chickens. We, too, want the Araucunas. I know where we want the coop. It's just a matter of him getting the time to build it. (Did you order them online? We have a local farm store that carries them without having to order them, but they are babies. I was hoping for some older ones.)

Chickens! That's exciting. Enjoy your weekend/week! I'll be working on a cocktail dress for a wedding I'm attending next week. There's nothing like sewing under a deadline. :)

I'm so excited your going to have chickens!!! When are you going to get them???? I can't wait to come see them!!! I had a dream last night that I saw gigantic white (i think) peacock. I think I was the peacock. But I'm not sure.... I also dreamed about a ginny water fowl. I have no idea if that is a real bird. But it was a cross between a hen and pheasant. And it flew away in the water. No one could catch it.

Chickens, spring break, sewing what could be better. Better put knitting in there. Tom and I have enjoyed our chickens, but the neighborhood kids love them. If you check out Mason-Dixon knitting blog they have a post just recently about knitting a shawl for baby chicks with several links - too funny!! Have a great week - enjoy!!

Oh I was so excited in my last comment that I posted it with typos! Simply not good enough, so here goes again:
I just love you! I admire so much how you have created your life just as you want it-and chickens!?! A dream come true! The babes are going to be in love!
I can smell the summer night air wafting into your room right now, a screen door was a perfect idea. I am so proud of all that you accomplish and the magic that you create for your family-you are a real gem. Love you!

I am so jealous you get to have chickens. I would love that....it is too cold here. They would require a heated coop. Looking forward to seeing some chicken pics.

I'd love to have chickens someday. I have a neighbor that has like 20 cats. (Uh, crazy cat lady?) I just have a feeling they'd bother my chickens. Plus I think I should start slow. A garden this year, we'll see what next year brings!
I wonder if it's even legal to have chickens where I live. Someone my husband works with just got some and they live in our same county. hmmm.
Your balcony looks blissful!
