Lately

Oh, lately all I want to do is read, snuggle with the kids, browse the book store, and eat Chinese food. I have done all of that this week (a few times over) but it doesn't seem to be enough.
Maybe it is all the rain. It has been raining here since Monday night. I don't think it has stopped.
I lost my sewing mojo too. I have no desire.
Yes, it has to be the rain.

I have had this quilt top done, sandwiched, quilted for a month now. I finally got around to finishing it yesterday, thinking it would get me in the mood to sew again, but no such luck. I messed up on the binding about four times. Oh well. Once it was done, I was happy. Once it was washed, I was even happier.

I have had this idea in my head for a while. A stacked coin quilt, using linen, some of my favorite Heather Ross, Heather Bailey and Japanese fabrics. I backed it with unbleached muslin. I am in love with muslin lately. It is so soft, I love all the different colors, not to mention the price. I used linen for the binding too. Linen and muslin. The perfect combination.

I wanted to try quilting it by sewing lots of lines that crossed over each other. I have seen this method on lots of other blogs and I loved it. I almost pulled mine out though. It did not come out like others I have seen, but I decided against it. It is fine for a first try.

I have been going up to bed to read after I put the kids down for a nap. It has been a long time since I have done anything like this, and it is nice.

If you need us, this is where we will be.

I hear you on the rain - that's all we've been getting here too. I'm hoping it means June will be beautiful...
Love the colors in this new quilt... it's just beautiful. I'm planning on doing some similar quilting for a mini quilt I'm working on - I think yours looks great!

I feel like this too-I can't seem to get teh motivation to finish anything. I was on a roll outside though, boy oh boy, did I have gardening fever. It must be the rain. I LOVE the quilt, the colors, and the quilting. It will get softer and softer as it ages too! Hang in there, it will have to be sunny again soon! Won't it?!?

Rain, a good book, a sleeping dog and kids, and some Kung Pao chicken sound like heaven to me!

Your quilt is gorgeous by the way. Looks so pretty AND snuggly!

Great quilt. OK. Another quilting question...with this puppy, did you do random straight stitches at angles all the way across the fabric? Creating criss cross pattern? I have still not quilted my one and only quilt and we sleep with it every night and I am worried the batting will shift.

ps LOVE my fabric. Did my first mini project with one of the fabrics: .small applique on a maternity skirt pocket

Thanks!

You sound so cozy and content. And I really like your little coin quilt. I think that is my next choice in quilt patterns. Really...rainy days, staying inside, reading, and cuddling with the kids with a homemade quilt...sounds like heaven to me! Have I told you lately? I love your blog!

Oh, my definite way to spend an afternoon. Sometimes the best feeling is just keeping things simple. That quilt looks amazing and so cool yet cozy. I read Barefoot and wasn't impressed. Maybe you'll like it more than I did.

your quilt is beautiful. I love your simple yet classy aesthetic. and curling up with a good book is so important - sometimes when you're constantly making stuff you need to take a break and actually use and enjoy all that you've made.

Just the mere mention of linen and muslin sends me swooning. I want to dive under the covers and take a nap. Lovely, lovely.

Oh it's been raining here all week too. I know about the lost sewing mojo and with three kids playing little league plus all the other Mommy stuff to do knitting and reading is about it. I miss my sewing room but just can't get motivated to get in there. Maybe in a few days I hope. I love the quilt and it looks sooo snuggly. Now if I can get my garden planted this weekend in between games and rain maybe just maybe I can find some sewing mojo. Good luck to you too.

:) I LOVED that last photo and sentence! The rain always gets me like that, too. Sometimes it makes me feel like knitting, but mostly it makes me feel like hiding under a blanket. I also agree with Michelle B -- how could you not want to snuggle/read with such an inviting quilt!

Beautiful quilt...I think I will make a quilted little kitty bed for my kitty. For some reason your post is inspiring me to dash out to the fabric store tomorrow.

looks like your dog has been trying to convince you of the benefits of a nap and taking life easy...he's not worried at all about relaxing, why do we?

Gorgeous quilt - I love all the white/natural shades. I've been wanting to make a new quilt for my room & have thought of doing stacked coins. I haven't been able to visualize the look & how the colors would be ... after seeing yours, I have a clearer picture!

Again, beautiful! ~heather b

Its definitely the rain. I always want to sleep when its raining (and sleep best when there's a thunderstorm!). I love linen in quilts, too. Its such a beautiful, soothing fabric. Linen/cotton blends are great, too. Your quilt looks great! I like the fabrics you chose for your coins. I like the quilting, too.

I've had the itch to read, too. I used to always have a book in hand...then I had kids! lol! Its time to get back to reading though! Your room looks like the best place to read. It looks quiet and comfortable.

No wonder you want to just read, the author is a very good one. If you haven't read her other titles, I definitely would, you'll enjoy them!

Your quilt is beautiful. May I ask where you get linen fabric? I have such a hard time finding it.

So nice to see the sun today, hope you had some sunshine in Maine!

I find it is always nice to just relax sometimes especially in the middle of the afternoon!

Um, there should be a warning at the beginning of this post that it will induce envy for anyone reading it while at work. I long to be there or somewhere like it instead of at work today! The quilt is beautiful and I like the effect of the lines. How is that book?
