More Thrifting

How was your Mother's day? Mine was good. So good. I told the family I wanted to eat out, and go to Flea Market's and such, so that is what we did.
We have a recycling barn about a mile away from us. We go every Saturday to drop recyclables off, but I have never been in there. My husband usually does it all, while I wait in the car with the kids. He happened to mention they had a lot of windows, so I had to take a peek.

I found the perfect window, and backed it with six different kinds of vintage fabric. I cleaned it up, painted it and stapled the fabric to the back. I love it. I have wanted to do this for a long time, but just never got around to it. We hung it in Anna's room above her dresser. I think she likes it too.

When we pulled up I spotted this blue, chippy wicker chair just sitting there. I walked up to it, thinking it must be in rough shape, but it wasn't. I threw it in the back if the car and stained it with white outdoor stain as soon as we got home.
I love free stuff.

The bench is my mother's day gift. We have been shopping for one of these since we moved here five years ago. This one is perfect. It was a bargain too. I think because it was painted bright pink, but I took care of that. I made a cushion for it last night. I used linen and some vintage lace I have had forever.
It was such a great weekend.
Now, back to reality. There is laundry waiting for me.

I love old windows. I know we have some in our barn from our house. Even a few stained glass ones. I had never thought to put vintage fabric behind them. Great idea.

And, I've wanted an old church pew forever for our dining room. My grandmother has one in her basement, but it's in terrible shape.

Can't decide which one I like the best...bench? wicker chair? Oh...well...I think it's that window pane...the idea of putting fabrics inside the pane is unique and so creative...yes, I think I like that the best! Very, very pretty!

Oh. My. goodness. I love that window. I have one I picked up along the curb (shameful, I know) and I haven't known what to do with it. Now I do! that is brilliant! Thanks so much for the inspiration. You are so great at taking something and making it yours! Happy Mother's day!

What great finds - and makeovers. Hmm, how come I ended up doing laundry on my Mother's Day?

The other day you said that you bought the ruffle at jo-anns. I set off enthusiastically, thinking that I could get a ruffle without having to make one, but couldn't find one anywhere. Do you find it just amongst all those ribbons, trims and lace edging things?
