Moving Chairs

Are you comfortable? Let's talk decorating. I am a Nester. Are you? If you visit me, I can almost guarantee that when you come back, things will look a bit different. I love to move things around, and I do it a lot.

Take this chair for instance. A friend of mine has one. It is the most comfortable chair ever. I had to have one. I usually buy used furniture from flea markets and antique shops, but this chair was meant to be mine.

We moved the rocker that was there into Jack's room.

And the blue chair that was in Jack's room was moved into Addison's room. This was a fun afternoon for us. Sometimes, (and I mean sometimes) it goes really well and the kids get really excited and involved in decorating with me.

I love white, ivory, and linen. It makes it a lot easier to move a piece from room to room because it will always look nice.
Some people may think it is boring, seeing so many shades of white, but not for me. As much as I love color, I decorate with white because it is simple and soothing.

I decided this old frame looked better above the tub than the antique plates that were there.

I love the plates in Anna's room though. She does too. This is the room for pink, floral stuff.

This star used to be in Anna's room, but I decided the other day it would look so cute over Jack's crib.

I used to feel like I had to hang onto everything. Especially if I made it, or spent any kind of money on it. I have gotten over that. If I am tired of something, or just need a change, I take the piece out of the room and walk around the house to see if I can find the perfect place for it. If I can't, it goes in a closet. If I don't find a place for it within a year, it goes away. I donate it, or give it to a friend.
I never clean while decorating either. I like to get the room just how I want it, then I clean it.

I also like touches of red with my white.

I am drawn to things that are old and chippy. Things that look like they have had a life before I brought them home.

How do you decorate?

I do the same with decorating! If I don't like something in one room, I just move it to another until I find where I like it best. And I love to move things around. Your home is so lovely, thanks for sharing!

I love that first chair, too, and have been looking for something just like it! Do you mind sharing where you got it?

Your decorating is really soothing on the eyes....beautiful paint colors and very elegant. I decorate with creamy vanilla colors also. I love your use of chairs in the bedrooms. I think it's very important create a cozy quiet nook in all rooms. I used to change things around alot when I was a bit younger....now that I am an old lady things seem to stay in the same place for a lot longer period of time.

You knit beautiful things, you quilt beautiful quilts, you are beautiful, and now you decorate beautifully, too? Oh. My.

Seriously - you decorate beautifully, it is very soothing. I'm just not that great of a decorator. lol

Kate,
I got the chair from target online. It was a great deal, cheaper than the one in the store. I think it was $125.00 and that included shipping!!

This was such a fun post for me. I don't really decorate. Too many books for that?!

I like simple, clean lines...stainless steel or wood, glass tops...no nooks or crannies where dust gathers (because I hate to dust) and an easy swipe of the dustcloth and the fingertips are gone.

But, I love your beautiful white...chips, peels, cracks...and that touch of color...green, red...antique or brand new.

I like both...the eclectic and white...because I am sooooo a nester, too. That's why this felt at home to me. Thank you for that!

Your home is beautiful. You've a touch of magic. It should be in a home interior design publication or two. Totally. And you should consult.

I do the same, things move from room to room and look fresh and new again.
I'm also on a white paint bender. Just painted my daughters bedroom white as well as the kitchen. Love it!
I need far more work on the parting with things and decluttering -- way more work! lol

Unfortunately, my answer to "how do you decorate" is "not very well." I've been struggling with pulling things together around my house and making things look good. I love seeing what other people's houses (like yours) look like and getting ideas.

Oh, I used to pour over decorating magazines for hours on end, just wishing that I had fulfilled my dream of becoming an interior decorator. Now, I have a lot of things I love that don't seem to go together. When did the person who everyone used to call for help become the person who can't decorate her own place? Hmmmm... Love, love, love your style. Me? love linen, urns, whites of all tones, and a touch of black in every room.

Katie, I can't wait to see the pillow you're going to make for that new chair (cause I know you will!). Enjoy it, it is a beauty.

I love your use of white on white, and find it very calming. I used to have an all white house...a warm white, like vanilla ice cream, with lots of wood and bits of blue and green here and there. Then I moved from one house to another, and started using color...yellow/gold, a red kitchen with lots of white china and ironstone, a lovely deep peony pink bedroom...and I love it. I repaint the other bedroooms every few years. I like to move furniture around, and most of my accessories could work in any room in the house. Most of them are white! Ironstone, china, McCoy pottery, buttons, stones, frames, etc. I love slipcovers. In fact, when I saw your chair, I thought, now that would look so good in a skirted slipcover! Your home is lovely, your liberal use of white very calming. I truly believe if you buy something you love, you'll find a place for it...maybe even many places for it!

I love love LOVE that you decorate with white! To some people it might seem really boring but it all just blends so well and that's what we try to do here, except with natural colors - reds, sage, brown.

Your decorating style is superb. Who needs HGTV, I've got Philigry! :D Great post - and thanks for your nice comment on my baby boy post!

Your home always looks so inviting! I must admit I haven't really stood back and "looked" at my home for a while - I am sure it could do with a bit of a revamp!

Can I just say I love your house? And if you are ever nearby, I want you to come decorate mine? I'm in the mood to rearrange things all the time. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes well.....everything looks great though!

Your house is lovely with beautiful, calming paint colors. May I ask the name and brand of the green in your bathroom? I just love it. Thanks!

I agree, white is always beautiful and classic - and you've done such a nice job of adding just the right splashes of colour. I can feel how warm and inviting your home is!

I love to decorate, but haven't done a darn thing since my girls were born. It will be a few more years before my house will look anywhere near as clean and soothing as yours because my kids are M-E-S-S-Y! When they're all in school I'll have time to decorate. At least, I hope so!!

PS: I love white, but don't use it much now because it would only get covered in mac & cheese and dirt from my kids. Did I mention they are messy? lol!
