I made a Gumdrop Pillow yesterday using a white sheet I already had. I saw a big white floor pillow in a magazine and it has not left my mind. I made one using the Gumdrop pattern from Amy Butler, with a few alterations.
We have this sitting nook in our bedroom that we love. My mom gave us the love seat and I had a slipcover made for it. I found the chair at a thrift store, painted the wood and made a slipcover for it out of a bedspread I got for $12.
I thought the space needed a pillow. I made this yesterday. It takes about an hour or so. It is such a great pattern. I highly recommend it to all sewing levels. A great beginner project. It is big, so it can be used as an ottoman or a floor pillow.
The alterations I made were pretty easy. I followed the instructions, but I left the top panel off. Then before I stuffed it I made a big cover button. I secured it by putting a very long piece of embroidery floss up through the bottom, then at the top tacking down the button, then the bottom again. I tied a loose knot, stuffed it, and sewed up the opening.
After that, I flipped the pillow upside down, and sat on the it placing the knot between my knees and pulled until I got the look I wanted. I tied two really tight knots.
I love how Eve always comes up here during nap time while the kids are napping. I think I will join her.
