A New Use For Something Old

Have you ever spotted one of these old tool boxes? I have been obsessed with them lately. You can find them at antique stores or flea markets. My husbands grandfather made these. I love them.

I have flowers in this one now, but for the next party I have, I am going to use it to put the silverware, napkins and cups in.

We also have this one. It is holding some books, but soon I will fill it with white pumpkins.
After that I will be looking for some big sugar pinecones and cedar branches for Christmas.

I washed these and after they dried I put a light coat of white paint on them. Just enough to make it look like some of the paint has worn off. I love the old wood look too. Maybe one of them needs a stencil?
Any other idea for old tool boxes? I want to hear them.

these are great, K! I love how you coat everything with white paint yet each item still retains it's original patina and character - you really know how to bring out the beauty in everyday objects! and your use of hosta leaves is brilliant - I will steal that for our next arrangement!

haha Of course you'd break out the stencils! It would look lovely, of course. Everything you do turns out lovely. :D And if it doesn't, you can just paint it and start over.

I love the little flowers!

They're fabulous! I use one to store fat quarters on end so I can play with colour combos.

We also have one with condiments to carry out on the deck for bbqs: ketchup, mustard, rolled up cutlery in cloth napkins etc.

What great ways to use them! I put my quilting supplies in one to carry around the house.

I saw a bunch of those thrifting last weekend. Of course, I didn't pick one up and now I'm kicking myself! Hopefully one will still be there.

What a great idea to use the toolbox for silverware, etc. for your next party! I love it with the flowers, too. Hmm...my mom may find her old toolbox "missing" the next time I visit home...

I have two of these...can't seem to resist them either! I have had one on my dining room table for awhile now. I keep about five electric pillar candles in it. Over winter I put pinecones around the candles and this summer I put in fake lemons and limes around the candles.
