I secretly had visions of taking them out in the woods to get really sweet pictures, but well, I will take what I can get.
Addison has been talking about this garden gnome costume for almost a year now. He always has a plan very early, and sticks to it. Next year he is going to be Santa.
Naturally Jack wants to be the same thing as his brother, which makes it easy.
I know that won't last long though.
I am going to get some blush so they can have rosy cheeks, and a rosy nose. They are going to wear black pants and tuck them into their rain boots. So gnomey, don't you think?
These costumes were so easy and fast to make. I got the red felt, beard fabric and blue fleece for Joann's. I think everything cost $25 and I have some fabric left over. I made a cone for the hat and sewed down the back seam.
For the beard I just cut a triangle, cut slits across the top about an inch apart and folded it over a piece of twine and sewed it with a zig-zag stitch. The twine ends are tied at the top of their head to keep their beards on.
I used a shirt pattern that I already had for the jackets. Since it was fleece, I did not do any hemming. Very easy. I tied it together with a piece of twine.
I never used to like Halloween until I had kids. Now I just love it.
What do you do on Halloween?

Great idea for costumes and very, very cute. But those faces are priceless. They look real happy about posing!!!
Those are great costumes!
We don't do much for halloween anymore, my kids have out grown it. We do enjoy handing out candy and seeing the little ones though.
Those are cute! my youngest is going as a box full of puppies.... as soon as i find my camera, i will post pictures.
Such cute costumes! I'm thinking I might actually dress up this year...maybe little red riding hood? It would be easy to whip up a red fleece hooded cape.
Kate - these pics and your write-up made me laugh out loud! I miss my naughty little Gnomes! I hope you guys have a wonderful Halloween! Any plans for Franky's b-day? miss you,
I love Halloween! My kids are all grown up (well, one is still in high school and the other is in college), but I remember how much fun it was to dress them up and go trick or treating. Have fun with your garden gnomes and garden fairy!
Okay, this just cracked me up. Their innocence reminded me of when I dressed my Yorkie as a chili pepper and then mericlessly took pictures. They are absolutely adorable!
Love it!
Oh I love those! I tried to talk my son into being a gnome, but he insisted on being a rainforest tree. Kids are so picky. lol ...
The boys look so cute!
What an awesome idea for a costume! I love it!
I love your little gnomes!
So cute :)
Oh my goodness, they are just so cute I can hardly stand it! Even if they are being grumpy!
I love Halloween. But I have always loved it. I think I missed my calling in life. I should have been a theatrical costume designer. We always have costumes. And we add a tradition every year. This year, the dawn of visiting a real working farm for our pumpkins. I have enjoyed seeing your Halloween costumes highlighted. Thank you.
i love them! your boys are so cute.
Do you remember the show David the Gnome? It was my favorite when I was younger. I love those costumes. I spend halloween handing out candy to the neighbor kids--too much fun!
Love the costumes and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who listens to what they want to be, goes to the trouble to make the costume and then not have happy posers!
My hubby's birthday is Halloween, so we usually have supper with his Mom before heading out to do a little Trick or Treating...and by heading out I really mean drive in to town because when you live out in the country like we do, there's no houses to walk to! ;)
Hope your kiddos have fun! I put the finishing touches on my girl's witch costume yesterday and have the straw ready to tape to my son's cuffs for his scarecrow costume. It is fun seeing what they want to be and watching them become it!

When my kids were that age I also made them gnome costumes--funny thing is, the grumpier they get, the better the costume looks:)
Oh my goodness, what an adorable pair of gnomes you have!
I always take the easy way out on Halloween. I just don't enjoy making costumes. This year Alex wanted to wear the same costume he wore 2 years ago, which was fine with me. I do still need to make a red tutu for a certain ladybug costume...
Well, that is just hilarious.
Get those woodsy photos - too funny!
SO cute, and just the right expressions, too. I still like to dress up! This year, I will be the ubiquitous witch.
I love those! What great costumes!
those are ADORABLE costumes!!! i love them!
Those are the cutest costumes. If I still had little ones to dress up, I would definitely borrow this idea.
SO DARLING!!!
