Fireside

I finally finished this knitting project. I started way back in March and it feels so good to be done with it. I could not get into it, but I got over that and knit the second side, back and two sleeves in two weeks. Once I got going it was a lot easier to read my stitches and memorize the cable pattern.

I have wanted this sweater since I saw the movie, The Holiday three years ago. I was not a knitter at the time, nor did I ever think I would be. I have to say, that this pattern is written exactly like the one Cameron Diaz wears in the movie. It is a little bit boxy, a little bit A-line, a little bit cropped. I made no adjustments to the pattern, even thought this is not the most flattering shape on me.

After doing a wet block, it grew, and grew, and grew. I thought I had ruined it because it got so stretched out. Thanks to a very good Friend, I was able to save it. I sent Leslie a very desperate email, and she came to the rescue.
Pop it in the dryer, check on it every few minutes. It worked! I will never forget that advice.

The Details:
Pattern: Fireside, by Amber Allison
Yarn: Cascade Eco Wool in white, about 2.5 skeins
Mods: None
I hear needles clicking...
Did you cast on already?

It's absolutely gorgeous! I love seeing all your knitting projects... makes me want to start something... but alas, knitting is not my forte. (I've been carrying around a pattern for a winter hat for quite some time, but still have nothing to show for it!)

This sweater is a definite beauty!

WOW! That sweater is gorgeous. You do excellent work. I'm glad you were able to "save" it. What a great piece to wrap up in by a winter fire.

Very beautiful sweater. I have one like that, the one I can't get into. I have the back done. Just needs a front and sleeves...sigh.

I love it! Isn't it funny how movies can inspire us to knit.

I remember watching the movie No Reservations and all through watching it, I was itching to knit some hats and sweaters for Madison just like the ones in the movie.

So, did you cast on anything else yet?

You weren't knitting three years ago -- are you kidding me?! You are constantly completing such gorgeous projects, I felt sure you've been at it for a while. The cables on this one are to die for...lovely work!

You don't hear needles clicking yet - but as soon as I'm done Christmas knitting (like midnight Christmas Eve, lol) I'll be casting on. :)
It looks terrific on you!

That is gorgeous! I cannot grasp cable...it is too complicated and my hands get sore too fast trying to manipulate it. I can't believe you did that. It looks super complicated! Great job!

Beautiful sweater! I think my ravelry queue just grew again. And great tip about blocking--I have a Mr. Greenjeans sweater that grew crazy-big. I may try the dryer tip.

It is breathtakingly gorgeous! I'm such a slow knitter, I think it would take years to make something like this but i'm inspired to try!

Thanks for posting this. We have a group on Ravelry for knits from movies and we've been looking for a good pattern for this. It is nice to see how the pattern came out!

Your sweater is absolutely beautiful! I just love it!! I have the pattern in my favorites, and perhaps after the holidays are over, this could be my first project (for me!) in 2010. Just gorgeous.

Yay! You finished it! I'm so happy to see it at last - fantastic pics of it - Cameron has nothing on you.
I've had more than one near-disaster with the sweater that grew like wildfire after blocking. And every single time the dryer it took care of it. So glad to hear Leslie endoreses that method too, cause I've worried every time that I've messed up big time.
LOVE your sweater.
